Review for The Wild Animal Sanctuary, Keenesburg, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

What people have done to wild animals over the centuries is appalling. Even with attitudes changing over time, sometimes it seems way too slow. The Wild Animal Sanctuary fills a specific need that various humane and rescue societies, wonderful as they are, can't begin to tackle. When the sanctuary bought additional land in Colorado to allow more animals to roam in large-acre habitats separate from the original land, it finally began to achieve the original vision of giving previously captive wild animals freedom to live the rest of their lives in a more natural environment. Wonderful. The sanctuary has also been able to assist with international rescues of animals affected by natural disasters, wars, and plummeting budgets. Again, wonderful. Their care of the animals, from safe rescues to ongoing veterinary care and close attention to each animal's welfare, should serve as a model for every animal rescue, including those for domesticated animals. Becoming a donor to support their work is one of the most rewarding efforts available to wild animal lovers like me who can't volunteer in person but can fund their programs. When people visit from out of state, I either take them to the original Wild Animal Sanctuary for a tour or encourage them to visit while here with the hope that they leave inspired to help wild animals however they can.
