I was fortunate enough to have learned about Charting Careers through a local giving circle. I was instantly drawn to their wrap-around approach to the services they provide. They are working side-by-side local youth - their families, school staff and neighbors. They look at the whole picture of the child and strive to support in a real and concrete way. What this looks like in real time is sensitive listening, meaningful problem solving and step-by-step planning for the future. In addition to being a donor, I have volunteered with the High School program in particular. Scholars meet weekly in school and work with Charting Career staff to set goals, visit colleges and navigate through challenging situations both in and out of school. I have seen first-hand the impact this has as the young people organize and facilitate their own career seminar, complete college applications and get accepted to their "dream schools". Charting Careers support does not end when the scholars leave high school or take a break for summer. They are there 24/7 - planning summer activities, providing 529 scholarship funding and touching base with students and their families all the way through. Every staff member is completely devoted to the young scholars and exudes a sense of warmth, confidence and respect in every interaction.
