I am so proud to serve as a Board member with Connect With a Wish (CWW) – a truly amazing organization dedicated to children living in foster care. This group is non-stop with its many programs focused on improving all aspects of the foster child’s life here in Virginia Beach. But for me, CWW's recognition of the need to continue care for young adults that age out of the foster care system is the most rewarding. The homelessness rate for these young people is staggering, and CWW is committed to changing those statistics. In the short term, CWW provides assistance in navigating the housing voucher program, organizing donations for furniture, and other needs to support this often overlooked population. But that is not enough. CWW is also actively networking with community partners to assist with the very real shortage of affordable housing – an absolutely enormous challenge that is decidedly critical.
