Review for Kauai Humane Society, Lihue, HI, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I LOVE the Kauai Humane Society and here’s why:
These dedicated folks work in what has to be a very difficult and often heart wrenching job. An animal gets adopted only to have five more come in. It is a constant uphill battle that they never fully get on top of.
When I lived on Kauai many years ago, the animal shelter was not a “No Kill Shelter”.
Thankfully, it is now and it takes tremendous work, enormous effort with the influx of animals they receive, most of which need to find homes off island. Maintaining their No Kill status requires constant fund raising, constant reaching out to the Community. A constant web presence. Foster homes, volunteers…so much to manage.
I was visiting friends on Kauai last March and not for any particular reason, looked at the “Dogs Available” page and little did I know that would instigate me bringing a new friend back home to California with me. With so many dogs to choose from, the patient and friendly staff worked with me to choose the best dog for my circumstances.
I ended up adopting a cool little whippet mix who fit right into my pack and has been a joy to have as a new family member. The process was graceful and EASY.
If you’re off-island, the staff will make time to video chat with you and they will also make arrangements to fly your new friend to your closest airport.
I enthusiastically and whole heartedly recommend adopting a new friend from the Kauai Humane Society. If you can’t adopt, please do what you can to support this deserving, animal saving and serving, non-profit. You’ll be glad you did.
