My daughter joined Kids Kicking Cancer a few months after her ALL diagnosis. She was feeling pretty down. Attending weekly classes helped her reconnect, the virtual option was extremely convenient, and shes developing additional coping skills there that she can continue to use later in life. When she was feeling up to it, there were a wealth of activities for her and her brother to join, from movie nights to museum visits and beyond. Being around kids who are or have gone through similar situations is a different dynamic, and it has clearly built her confidence. Looking back, I'd say it was a necessary component of transitioning back into the grind of daily life. The members of the organization are wonderful with children and welcome the families to join, as well. They are very responsive, accommodating, and understanding - even visiting members in their hospital rooms when requested. The core members are clearly dedicated and believe in what they do. We're very grateful for event volunteers, sponsors, and all those who generously donate their time and efforts, as well. The staying power of both the organization members and those it has served over the years in itself is a testament to the quality of the program, with many staying years beyond their recovery.
