My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for AnnieRuth Foundation, Jacksonville, FL, USA
I was a summer internship experience award recipient for the 2023 Summer and overall I would highly recommend this non profit and its services to the community. For my story, I had been accepted into the internship and had attended their monthly program seminars and activities to accumulate points to earn a summer internship in my career aspiration field of Medicine.
I will say that the monthly commitment to seminars was a bit tiring as the year went along, and the program itself is intense in what it asks of the student participants (ie: attending multiple calls throughout the months for many hours at a time), but the overall process is good hearted. The staff and directors only wish to see the students succeed and grow into bigger shells by being professionally developed and trained, but at times it does seem a bit forced or awkward for the student to have to conform and adapt. Being mostly an online environment, the overall efficacy is a bit limited by the lack of in person interaction or relationship building with the peers of the program. However, the nuance to all this is the size and breadth of the program participants and where they hail from (and of course travel restrictions) so I cannot be too critical of the online environment’s mediocrity.
To summarize, I think for the internship and what I obtained from the experience, it has helped and been resourceful. But it wasn’t enjoyable 100% of the time, and that had to do with the combination of factors that made the program more time consuming.
