Review for Calpirg Charitable Trust, Sacramento, CA, USA
I worked with the CALPIRG student group at UCSD for a couple years. I was thrilled with the work we got done, as a single chapter and as part of the larger network. We raised money and did service days at homeless shelters. We progressed environmental goals for the UC system. My favorite project was working in coalition with colleges all over the US to pass legislation through the US congress to reduce student loan interest-rates and get more financial aid. I am so proud of all the volunteers that work with CALPIRG, and the statewide supporters that make all this great work possible.

Both the student chapters and the statewide citizen group do some amazing work to protect Californians from unnecessary chemicals and pollutants, predatory credit practices, and a broken healthcare system.

Put them in the news more. Not enough people know about the great work CALPIRG does! I meet other members who wish we saw CALPIRG in the news more often, getting credit for the hard work they put in.
Review for Canvass for a Cause, San Diego, CA, USA
There is a lot of concern that this group is not a legitimate non-profit, and that most of the money raised is pocketed by the head of the organization. At least two of the leading members have been fired for fraud from other legitimate canvassing organizations. If you are looking to fix gay marriage in California, look for an actual track record of work, like Equality California, or HRC. If you care about cannabis, you should be concerned that they did such an awful job on Prop 19 that it lost despite conservative backing from some quarters. Progressives, please support groups that are actually accomplishing something with your support, not this one.

One of the managers of this group was fired from the canvassing group I work for because of fraud. That means that he was either stealing from the member donations or was falsifying his records to get paid more. The management of this group should be investigated.

Shut it down. People who want to make a real difference should look into legitimate organizations that are actually doing something good for the world.
