Review for More Than A Bed, Tucson, AZ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I took in, and later adopted, my first two foster sons about ten years ago. I was an unlicensed kinship parent with sudden needs that I had no idea how to meet. My Caseworker at the time referred me to More Than a Bed for beds for the boys. They delivered them a couple of days later; bed frame, mattress and sheets for both boys. Today I am a licensed foster parent and still rely on More Than a Bed for essentials for the children in my care. Children in the foster system arrive to my home scared, confused and with nothing but the clothes on their back. More Than a Bed helps me to transition them into my home quickly and at no cost to me. We are able to get beds when needed as well as clothing, shoes, blankets, toys, baby items etc. in one trip. If I had to purchase these items for each child I care for, I would need to do so over time. MTaB allows me to get them what they need quickly. There is a high level of supportive energy at MTaB that is motivating to both me and my kids. We are greeted on every visit with warmth and sincerity. Thanks to More Than a Bed for helping me to take some of the sting out of what can very well be the most vulnerable time in these kids' lives.

More Than a Bed truly lives up to their name. Yes, they provided bunk beds for my boys. The very next day, when I learned of an older brother still needing placement, I had my license amended and picked up yet another bed. I was also able to pick up clothing, bedding, shoes and toys for three young men who brought nothing with them but the clothes on their backs. When those boys left my care, two more arrived. This time I needed a crib. I re-donated one of the beds and picked up a crib as well as all of the other baby necessities. And I do mean all, bedding, clothing, diapers, wipes, bottles, stroller, bouncy chair, white noise machine, burp rags, blankets and so much more. Where the "More" comes in, for me, is in the people. I absolutely LOVE being there. It's a safe place. It's a welcoming place. When I am able to bring my kids, they are free to roam and "shop" whatever is available. They are greeted by friendly volunteers who truly enjoy helping them to find whatever they need. The genuine smiles are warm and inviting. We are all treated with absolute respect. For me, it's a safe place. No one calls me grandma. No one bats an eye that our skin color is different. It is all about getting us what we need, every single time. More Than a Bed has it all! If you are a potential client, stop by More Than a Bed. Ask questions. Let them know what you need. Say hello to Grace. You will be glad you did. If you are considering donating, do so with confidence. The services that they provide have made what I do as a foster parent infinitely simpler.
