Review for Educational Pathways International, Incline Village, NV, USA

Rating: 5 stars

My name is Asana Tungteeya Alhassan, an Educational Pathways International (EPI) scholar of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Ghana. I am currently a fifth year student. I am offering Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (MLSD). I am going to tell you about some of the circumstances that could have prevented me from pursuing higher education and making it this far.
Being the first born of a family of 8 including my mother and father, poverty have traumatized family. My father is a peasant farmer and my mother a pretty trader, we did not have enough to eat. The income of my parents could only be sufficient for our basic daily needs but not able to afford higher education. And so growing up, higher education has always been a luxury I could only dream of since payment of school fees and other educational expenses at the basic educational level had always been tough on my parents.
I can remember one time at the secondary school level when it was time for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate of Examination (WASSCE), we were asked to pay some amount of money for our practical and registration, my mother had to gather some of her assets to sell and still seek for help from some family members. This made me believe totally that higher education wasn't meant for some of us. But my parents saw the kind of determination I had and said to me that whatever they had to do for me to achieve my dream of becoming a health professional, they will do it. After the WASSCE examination, I was able to apply to the University for Development Studies and God being so good, I had admission. At this point I asked myself, how do I afford to pay my fees and other academic expenses that comes with university education till I graduate? I had an answer to my question when I heard of a scholarship for the brilliant and needy students, which is Educational Pathways International (EPI). I applied for EPI scholarship and after a series of interviews, I was selected among other students.
EPI awarded me a comprehensive scholarship, I do not have to worry about how to combine extra works and my studies whilst in school. All I have to do is to focus on my studies and my dream of becoming a Medical Laboratory Scientist. EPI has helped me in both financially and in my social life. I also get to learn a lot of things like socializing well with others, how to blend my academic and social life, how to write a good CV, public speaking and a lot more which has impacted greatly on my academic and social life. Becoming a Medical Laboratory Scientist is useless if I do not have the competence and ability to tolerate and work well with others. I get to improve upon all these qualities through our meetings with the Director of EPI where a lot of things including the few mentioned above are being taught and discussed.
EPI has given me a new life and so I started dreaming and acting differently in a positive way. I have been transformed and I am not the same person five years ago when I first came to the University. I started believing in myself as someone bound for greatness. I believe that studying Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science will help to improve upon the health status of the people in my community and Ghana at large.
For the first time in my life, getting the opportunity to pursue higher education has given me that I am someone bound for greatness. This couldn't have been possible without the support of EPI. I want to thank EPI. And promise I will keep working hard for what I want to become in future.
Once again, thank you EPI.
