This is a truly inspiring non-profit which is based on truly noble principles to overcome the terrible impact of war and disease by partnering people and HeroRats in a synergistic way that exploits neither. It's one of those truly inspiring ideas that gives me hope in so many ways: they are highly transparent in their operations with a proven record of using resources to bring the greatest benefit to where it is needed especially in training and deploying local people into a career rather than importing staff to deliver point solutions, they employ methods that treat animals with dignity and respect, they have a proven record of making safe large areas where the risk of mines and unexploded ordinance still exists long after fighting has ceased, they undertake their work safely for the benefit of people and animals alike and they are proving that they can detect TB in samples quickly and accurately where other testing methods have missed this fatal disease. In a world that can seem to be overwhelmed by problems APOPO is a fine example of how we can help make the world a better place.
