Review for Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA, Burlingame, CA, USA
I’ve been volunteering at PHS since 2019, and have really enjoyed being able to work with the dogs and visit the other animals on a regular basis. We even volunteered through the thick of the pandemic! The PHS has lots of educational programs for the public, and also trains the volunteers well. As a volunteer, I’ve participated in clicker training, happy hellos, enrichment training, and also 2nd chance training, where we help dogs with their behavior and manners so they are more adoptable. We apply these skills to the dogs we work with so they are mentally stimulated, have practice and exposure, and are ready for their new homes. It’s wonderful to be able to care for the animals in this transitional period before they find their forever homes. Each dog has certain circumstances that brought them to the shelter, and at PHS they all receive love, compassion, care, and the opportunity to meet their next family. The volunteer program is very well run and I’m so happy to be a part of the community, and grateful to have the opportunity to make a small but positive contribution in the life of these animals.
In addition to animal adoptions & providing medical care for the homeless animals that come through their door, they have a free pet food bank, a low cost vaccination and spay clinic, behavior classes for the public, and many other programs; I appreciate what the organization does to advocate for animals and make pet care more affordable and available to local families and their pets.
