Review for Arabian Rescue Mission Inc, Leitchfeild, KY, USA
I live in the Blue Ridge mountains of Western N.C. and have been a supporter of the non profit rescue: Arabian Rescue Mission (or ARM), located in Leitchfield, KY for 4+ years. It’s such an honor for me to do a review of this amazing rescue and its founder Terry Figueroa. My first contact with Terry was after receiving a request for a donation in the mail. After doing my research on her organization like I do for all my nonprofits I called her and after an hour long talk I had everything I needed to commit to not only being a donor but an active participant in ARM and it’s mission to rescue horses in need. There is so much I’d like to share from being a part of such an important mission these 4 years but don’t know how much space I have so I’ll give you some of the reasons I’ve joined ARM and why I’m staying with the mission as a loyal partner forever!
1. First of all I am an advocate for all animals and their welfare. My son and I have always been involved in canine rescue, fostering and adoption of those who are in need of care. Terry has had a lifelong love for horses not only Arabian but all horses. She created her rescue ARM due to the need she found for at risk horses suffering from abuse, neglect and those facing the worst type abuse & a horrific fate when their human decided they were no longer useful and out of greed and lack of any feelings for them sends them to an auction where they are often bought for only a few dollars by those who in turn send them to be butchered in slaughter houses across the border into Mexico and those in our own country. Her mission has saved thousands of these beautiful horses from slaughter and given them a second chance at the best life possible through adoption.
2. Terry is extremely knowledgeable in every aspect of not only rescuing these horses but how to get it done. It is a very complicated process after they’re saved to get them back to her farm especially if they are coming from out of state. They have to be quarantined and receive medical treatment while waiting to be brought to ARM. Some horses are in very bad condition and require expensive vet treatment and care before making the journey to Kentucky. This is often extremely expensive costing thousands of dollars for just one horse to be treated and transported but Terry makes it all happen regardless of the situation as she is connected to others around the country who are are willing to help and she utilizes all her resources.
3. Terry is not only transparent but very careful with finances whether it is from donors or from grants she is able to get for her mission. She provides valuable updates & shares information she feel the donors should know and provides documentation for tax purposes to donors in a speedy consistent manner.
4. From my first contact with Terry from day one it’s very clear that her mission has always been about one thing: the horses and their welfare! I am in contact with her often and we talk about the horses and she knows each one by name and their story & her dreams got their future. During these years being a part of her mission her personal circumstances may have changed such as a health issue that may arise that needs to be addressed and despite what she may need to do for herself she never lets the focus be on her and as always the priority is the HORSES!
I hope this gives anyone who loves horses or just wants to be part of an an amazing mom profit rescue an idea of one who may worth considering. I could give you so much more but I’m sure my time is running out! í ½í¸¬
