Review for PAWS New England, Millington, TN, USA
I got my Bella through PawsNE in june of '15, she was a bit over a year old, 13 lbs when I got her and she was terrified of me, of children, women, etc. The appearance of spatulas, shoehorns, flyswatters and even mildly loud curses would send her hiding either under the bed or under my truck depending on where we were at the time though it diminished over 6 months by which time she grew by 50%. I learned patience and she learned that any negative feedback from me for failing a lesson was short, 15 seconds perhaps and all was forgiven as we moved onto something else.
I'm retired and she's with me constantly on the river or working in the woods here. Folks love her and she loves them all including very young children. I got service dog status for her which is a godsend. She is welcomed everywhere because she is so happy and well behaved. I couldn't ask for a better partner.
I would have given PawsNE a 5 star rating and should have just for providing me with the fantastic pup but... It took 3 months to adopt her at the time with very little feedback from them until one night I checked my mail at 8 o'clock to see mailings within the hour from PawsNE. The first mailing told me that Bella would be in Hartford, Ct. at 3 am the next morning. What??? I live on the canada border 6 hours driving time from Hartford. The 2nd mailing dealt with the fact that they hadn't charged me the $400 or so for the dog yet and I dealt with that with a C/C soon enough. However someone at PawsNE arranged to have another person picking up a pup from them that lived hours closer to Hartford pick my dog up as well. They called me and I met with them at 7 am 3 hours south of here to take the dog.
About Bella, the dog herself, all I ever hear from folks is that they'll take her anytime. At the pub she's expected and welcomed more than I am. I thank PawsNE for keeping her alive as she had a lot of homes before I got her as I found out when I called a number on a vets' report of months earlier. She and I will take a long, months plus driving trip to see family throughout the west next fall as I have a service reunion to attend. The idea of leaving her behind with friends never occurred to me.
