Review for Project Akilah Inc, Tampa, FL, USA
This organization provides so much joy and allows these students to laugh and learn together in a community where they can share and challenge themselves. Meeting Gisele and Anita in Tampa was a testament to the strength of Akilah. Their smiles and stories tell of how dramatically different their lives have been since attending the Akilah Institute and their interpersonal skills are equally impressive. Akilah has perfected the non-profit formula; everything this organization does contributes to the success of it’s students. They are mindful of long-term goals and work towards sustaining their organization so that they may continue to change the lives of young women in Rwanda. Supporting Akilah is not a charitable donation, it is an investment in the future.

The first time I personally felt Akilah’s impact was when I was asked to order posters of inspirational women to be hung in the classroom. The students had chosen Janette Kagame, Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey, and the posters were sent to Rwanda. A few weeks later, I was sent a few pictures of the students posing alongside the Oprah poster with smiles so big I could almost hear their laughter. In realizing how much joy was created from a poster, I understood the significance of Akilah.

Continue to focus on the development side, have more fundraising events while maintaining an impressively personal relationship with supporters. The work Akilah does is too important to be underfunded.
