Like so many people who are increasingly concerned by the alarming statistics pointing to the ongoing loss of wild birds, I have come to rely on American Bird Conservancy for the most cogent overview of why this is happening and what I can do to help. This small and nimble organization, though just over twenty-five years old, tackles specific challenges by brilliantly conceiving and then successfully implementing a wide variety of creative science-based programs focused on the conservation of wild birds and their habitats. ABC keeps its donors fully informed and educated through articles, webinars, legislative updates, the beautiful BIRD CONSERVATION magazine, and personal contact. Through the years, I have been introduced to birds I never knew existed and learned about entire communities, admirable individuals, and private and government organizations throughout the Americas who work closely with ABC to reach the desired outcome. I appreciate the fact that ABC is so focused on its goals and has not strayed from its original intent or diluted its message. It continues to come up with creative solutions to complicated problems by retaining an extremely talented and professional staff of people who work to preserve one of the natural world’s most precious treasures.
