Project sanctuary provided a place and weekend for me and my family to connect with other family and become part of a greater community of both veterans and civilians who cater towards the needs of veterans transitioning from military life to civilian life. They also provided a suicide prevention workshop that I attended without my family. While there, I connected with people who help and care and supported me when I got back home. They emphasized connection, rather than isolation and self care, rather than self harm, fights veteran suicide. Today I’m a happier person and connected to my community- two things I didn’t have or know how to do before attending these retreats. For that, I am eternally grateful for project sanctuary and what they do for veterans.
