I belong to a New York Chapter Food and Water Watch I love them because They have a complete set of excellently administered services. e.g. There is also Food and Water Action. They can protect us on federal state and very local levels. Their staff is stable and that helps them accomplish their goals. Another reason for their success is easy collaboration with other greens. I have no trouble finding them and asking them what they plan to do when a new issue arises. This year I went to downtown Manhattan where they were finishing up a demonstration where staff was getting arrested. I asked my question then and there and they had no question answering me!! They do wonderful in depth studies on issues as they arise.

Strategically, when a policy emergency arises, these advocates can turn on a dime organizing volunteers for a new challenge in the Halls of Congress or state or local legislature. That ability is critical and as an early leader Food & Water Action can bring other organizations into the new strategy.
I first joined Food and Water Action a few years after the New York City Climate March of 2014. I have the advantage of pushing for policy in my city (NYC) my state (New York) and nationally. I no longer drive so it is wonderful to get on a bus arranged for by Food and Water Watch and or Food and Water Action, receive timely briefings, enjoy discussion with staff, other greens leaders and fellow/sister volunteers. .
These folks are very kind and respectful to their volunteers . I remember being trained by the Chicago office in using their telephone software to reach citizens of Michigan (where I grew up but no longer live.) . These softwares were complicated then and I wonder now if I can ever be trained to use the latest versions. But at the time several young women patiently trained me.
The emphasis for volunteers within Food and Water Action continues to be policy but when the gray area of candidates might be involved I am confident I am not breaking any rules and that my voice can be heard in a legal manner.

Food & Water Watch national and New York State: I learned about and joined this organization just after the New York City Climate March 0f 2014. They proved to be extremely stable (extremely low employee turnover) and guide us volunteers with wonderful solid research. I was floored to discover their founder had written a book on the history of fossil fuels starting with the Oracle of Delphi. I keep for years FFW little highly readable monographs on key issue such as the Farm Bill that can explain policy positions for years. Morale with volunteers is very high because the organization is so respected by other green organizations here is New York City where I live. And more than that because I am respected for my brains and my age and I have access to staff. I am linked into non profit pressure at every level of government and I can call the Food & Water Watch office or go down to a demonstration and just ask a question. This organization is kind and democratic as well as strategically capable. I am proud to give them their well-deserved five stars. Rachel Makleff 83 years old
