Being refractory to many myeloma's existing treatments, I decided to participate in a clinical trial that may prolong my life with my hope to see my grandchildren at least graduate high school. But participating in a clinical trial is an intensive process of many labs and tests, and then weekly treatments sometimes necessitating twice weekly travel to the center which is 50 miles one way from my house. My clinical trial coordinator introduced me to Lazarex which provided me monthly financial assistance to cover my transportation to and from my house to the treatment center. Lazarex is a big blessing, and I think the only non profit to offer this kind of assistance to cancer patients like me. And they are very efficient and timely in their reimbursements too! I don't need to plead at all, as I do with a different foundation that takes 10 months for me to get reimbursed for food.

When I arrive for my all treatments after being drop off by Lyft, I am more calm and relax and have more emotional and mental space to receive my treatments with ease, with no added stress of driving and parking.

It's been over a year since I started the clinical trial, and my participation continues on as long I respond well to treatments. And I am! Now on complete remission, the longest I have had since starting treatments 12 years ago.
