Review for Missouri River Relief, Columbia, MO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Missouri River Relief (MRR) is fantastic because it’s an incredibly passionate, grassroots nonprofit dedicated to connecting people to the Missouri River through hands-on conservation, education, and recreation efforts. Here’s why they stand out:

1. Massive River Cleanups
MRR organizes large-scale cleanups that bring together volunteers from all walks of life to remove tons of trash from the river. Since 2001, they've helped haul out over a million pounds of debris! It’s an amazing way to protect wildlife and keep the river healthy.

2. Inspiring Education Programs
They don’t just clean the river—they teach about it! MRR runs educational programs like Missouri River Days and floating classrooms, helping students and teachers connect with the river through science and hands-on learning.

3. Adventure & Community Building
Through paddling trips, river excursions, and speaker series, MRR brings people together to appreciate the beauty and history of the Missouri River. Their events foster a deep love for conservation and adventure.

4. A Strong Volunteer Spirit
This organization thrives on community involvement. They mobilize hundreds of volunteers every year, proving that small, passionate groups can make a huge impact.

5. They Make a Real Difference
MRR isn’t just about awareness—they take direct action. By physically removing pollution, educating future generations, and advocating for a cleaner river, they’re making a lasting difference for both people and wildlife.

Simply put, Missouri River Relief is an inspiring force for good, showing how local action can have a big impact on one of America's most important waterways. Have you ever participated in one of their cleanups or events? If not, make it a must-do on your list!.

Missouri River Relief truly lives up to it’s mission of connecting people to the Missouri River. Whether it’s education programs like “Missouri River Days”, “Mornings on the River”, “Big Muddy Speakers Series”, “Clean Rivers Start At Home” or recreation events like the world famous “MR340” or “Race to the Dome” or environmental stewardship like “Missouri River Clean-Ups”, “Trash Mobs”, “Big Muddy Boat Rides”, “Missouri River Explorers”, they lead by example! As a. Board Member and volunteer, I see the dedication, leadership and hard work of the staff and other volunteers. “Everyone is Welcome” is a mantra of the organization. My wife and I moved from St. Louis, MO to Columbia, MO about 3 years ago to be closer to our grandchildren after we both retired. Our son suggested that we volunteer with Missouri River Relief so we would stay active. He told us what a great organzation it was, so we agreed to try them out. Well let me say one thing, we found the staff and volunteers at Missouri River Relief to be very friendly and welcoming. The work they are doing with educational programs, river clean-ups, river races and the advocacy for the Missouri River are just outstanding. We have both volunteered at numerous programs throughout the last three years and we can honestly say that this organization is something that everyone would be proud to be a part of. We both highly recommend becoming crew members and volunteers. I believe in the work they are doing so much that I volunteered to become a Board member of the organization. Check them out at www.riverrelief.org and sign up to volunteer, there are opportunities for everyone, do as little or as much as you like, but come and be a part of something that will make you feel good to be a volunteer!
