Review for Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust, Inc., Lowell, MA, USA
I live in Lowell, Massachusetts which is home to multiple urban conservations lands managed and steward by Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust. One of their locations “Hawk Valley Farm” is a place that once you enter you will soon forget you are in a city. Having access to public open spaces such as Hawk Valley Farm where you can connect to nature and the wildlife that lives there can make a difference in your daily life.
Having been inspired by the work of Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust and my trips out to Hawk Valley Farm motivated me to write and publish my first visual story map called “Urban Conservation – Does it Matter?”
Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust leads local elementary school students on field trips, and for some of these students, it is their first trip into a conservation land where they can touch, smell, see, and hear nature all around them. Having been out in the farm during one of these field trips and listening to the student’s questions, and to see their faces when they get excited, is a rewarding feeling.
In the city of Lowell, Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust gives us all a chance to slow down and experience the natural world around us.
I ended my visual story with my own quote about why urban conservation matters.
“When you know that the work that is being done allows the concrete pavement of the city streets to blend easily into natures natural surroundings, then you know urban conservation matters”
