GirlsRock!DC changed my life. When I first became involved many years ago it was to do a virtual presentation on Opera. I went to music school and hold a degree in Vocal Performance but hadn’t been making music since becoming burned out. The GRDC facilitator to my workshop was amazing and asked really relevant and important questions. It was obvious to me this was an organization I wanted to get more involved in. From there I signed up for WeRock and formed a really amazing band! Making music on my terms in a safe community was such an inspiring experience that I signed up to volunteer. Fast forward a year I’m the Vice Chair of the Board, I volunteer as often as possible, I am teaching music for a living, and that drummer I met one weekend at WeRock is my child’s Godfather. This organization has given me community, friends, skills, and rekindled my passion for making music. The best part of it all is knowing that all the work we do gives young people that life changing experience. We get to see the light that shines through a persons face when they’re making music and being heard.

I could go on and on and on about how wonderful this organization is! I started out attending the adult rock camp where I made permanent friends and really stepped out of my shell. This group helped me to find confidence, community, and a cause I believe in. They make a huge difference in the lives of anyone who comes through their program- including mine.
