I found One Spirit just before COVID hit. I donated to them and received a lovely letter, thanking me for my donation. I then donated again. I decided I wanted to participate more. (This reservation is where my grandmother was born). I called the director and ask her if I could visit. We went to the reservation. Needing help is a gross understatement! Myself and other helped build a “Youth Center”. The kids were dirty, they had no place to go and shower. They had no games, no place to play and few if any people to watch them!! For me that was the beginning. These people DESPERATELY need help. The little village of Allen, where our youth center was built is the POOREST COMMUNITY IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! Shame on us for not helping these people. With well over an hours drive to Rapid City, there are extremely few jobs. Nothing but poverty and despair. It will take time but One Spirit is diligently chipping away. No end in sight but progress is encouraging. PLEASE HELP US HELP those on Pine Ridge!
