Review for Sierra Pacific Great Pyrenees Clu, Granite Bay, CA, USA
Sierra Pacific Great Pyrenees Club is truly dedicated to preserving this ancient breed of livestock guardian dogs. Pam and Jim Tobin have extensive knowledge of Great Pyrenees dogs and rescue them from shelters and from owners who can no longer care for their dogs. The organization is managed effectively, and is transparent in their funding and expenditures. There is an impressive group of dedicated volunteers who care for the rescued dogs. Pam plans group outings like the annual trip from San Francisco to Marin on a ferry where onlookers become familiar with the breed. The Sacramento Holiday Parade includes an entourage of friendly and festive Pyr dogs who welcome being petted by parade watchers. Pam makes sure that the communities know about Great Pyrenees. We adopted our Pyr from SPGPC three years ago today, and are so glad we did. Pam and volunteers educate potential adopters about the Pyr behaviorial characteristics-- they are highly intelligent and independent. They are very calm, yet protective guard dogs. Pyrs shed, and as adults are often well over 100 pounds. They carefully assess homes for rescued Pyrs to be pets rather than working livestock guardian dogs.
