IMAlive is the most beautifully run nonprofit I've had the opportunity to work with. As a volunteer of around 4 years, I can say that everybody involved with the organization is dutifully invested in helping individuals undergoing crises of all kinds. Volunteers stay with IMAlive for a long time, which largely accounts for the feeling that we are a family fighting for an important cause. No matter what is going on in my life, no matter how terrible a week I've had, knowing that I've spent a slice of that week lending an ear to my fellow humans is enough to convince me that I'm doing alright. Moreover, IMAlive is a unique chatroom platform wherein the volunteers are trained and certified in crisis intervention. We serve vulnerable populations for which talking on the phone could be dangerous, and traditional forms of treatment and support are unattainable. Overall, it is indescribably rewarding to be part of something greater than yourself, where your value is measured only by how much you care about helping those in need.
