We moved to McCormick in early 2021 from the West coast to retire at Savannah Lakes Village. We had lost our beloved dogs 5 years earlier and had told ourselves we wouldn't adopt any dogs until we were fully retired. We visited the McCormick Humane Society and were given a tour by Jeannie. A small furry black face peering out from his igloo caught our eye and we asked to be introduced. He was a very shy pup who had been caught living on his own in town. Jeannie thought he was about 8 months old but when he went to get neutered, the vet said he was about a year and half old! Poor pup had been living on his own for a long, long, time. We came to the shelter every day for a month to let him get used to us so we could hopefully adopt him. All the volunteers gave us as much time as we needed in order for him to learn to trust people and help him with his anxiety. This shelter has so many wonderful people and from the moment we met Jeannie on our initial tour, we felt welcome there. They truly care about the animals in their shelter and help people to make the best choice for their lifestyle. It's been 10 months since we adopted Cooper and we are so blessed to have found him. We can't thank the Humane Society of McCormick enough for allowing us to adopt such a beautiful animal!
