Review for Saffyre Sanctuary, Inc., Sylmar, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Saffyre Sanctuary has helped to adopt almost 100 horses.
As a volunteer I have seen Saffyre take in horses that have been saved from auction (to most likely be sent to slaughter)
A horse named Valentino had been rescued after his guardian could no longer care for him, he had become blind in one eye and with severe damage to his front legs.
A horse named Hollie had been used (exploited) so badly that due to being ridden excessively for 20 years, her back became lopsided, developed leg issues and had dental problems due to neglect. She was considered lame..and Saffyre took her in to its Sanctuary.
Lakota had been rescued after being used as a race horse, found extremely underweight after subsisting on leaves. His hooves were infected possibly from chemicals called used for "soring"..rumored that previous "owner" tried to make him dance. He stayed with Saffyre for a long time and was adopted by a loyal volunteer.
His legs and hooves had been tended to every day-and had veterinary check ups.
Cloud was taken in...a horse that had been used to barrel race..the list goes on.
I have witnessed Saffyre Founder Esta Bernstein help rehome two donkeys (the mother had been hooked up to a milking machine for almost a year and scared of anyone who came near her) Her son was nutritionally deprived and could barely walk. Saffyre had the donkeys stay in a safe location as they ate nutritious food, had physical therapy (laser treatments) and once they became strong and became more confident around people were rehomed.
Recently a draft horse who's mother was part of the premarin industry and adopted as a foal was being relinquished after her guardians could not longer care for her was rehomed.
We have a small number of Saffyre horses that are our ambassadors.
These are just a few horses below-(one donkey second photo) . We have many more photographs and videos ( on instagram and facebook)
