Kids Matter Inc. is the only resource for specific, crucial services to traumatized children in the Milwaukee community. These are children whose parents are unable or unfit to care for them. Often one or both parents are homicide victims or are drug addicted or imprisoned. These children have lived traumatic lives. Kids Matter Inc. assists the new caregivers, typically grandmothers, aunts or older siblings to navigate the legal and social services systems. It trains volunteers to advocate for children in foster care as well. No words can capture the impact of the work this small group of dedicated professionals has provided for more than 20 years under the leadership of its founder and executive director Susan Conwell, JD.
