Review for Petros Network, Portland, OR, USA

Rating: 5 stars

All my life I have heard stories, seen pictures, watched videos and even sang songs about missions. I was introduced to Petros Network years ago and was so impressed by all the good things I heard they were doing in Africa. I finally decided to take a big step out of my comfort zone and join Petros Network on a trip to Ethiopia to see first hand what they were doing there. It was eye opening. Poverty is the rule, not the exception. It was chaos. There was no order. It was filthy. Life there is about endurance and survival. It wasn't long before my eyes began to well up with tears and feeling my heart began to break. We worked in a little village called GoJo. Our purpose that week was to empower the widows by educating them. We trained them in life skills and simple business plans and just loved on them. We also taught feminine hygiene and water purification. Petros Network has opened a medical facility in GoJo where they were giving medical exams to over 80 orphans. Everyone of them with a heartbreaking story. During this visit, we visited one of the widows in her little mud home. I couldn't help picture myself living there with my three children. No heat, no lights, no bathroom, no running water, sharing a bed or sleeping on a cold, often wet dirt floor. The clothes on her back were the only clothes she had. This way of living is the norm and I'm so moved that the Petros Network is going to these places to help where others won't go. I've attached a photo of me meeting with a widow in her home and it was the best hug I've ever received. In closing, since that first trip to Ethiopia, my life has been forever changed. I have traveled back to Africa twice since. Recently, South Sudan, Uganda & Tanzania. Petros Network is busy doing so many great things as they continue to grow. They are world changers to alleviate spiritual and physical poverty in the hardest to reach and often persecuted places of the world.
