I was a MATHCOUNTS "mathlete" as an 8th grader in 1983-84, the first year the program existed. Early in my engineering career, I joined the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and its state affiliate in Georgia and was thrilled to learn that NSPE is a founding sponsor of MATHCOUNTS. I now have been a MATHCOUNTS volunteer for 25 years, serving as both a chapter and state coordinator. It is wonderful to be part of such a vibrant, fun program that helps middle school students excel in math and build their problem-solving skills. MATHCOUNTS is one of my favorite volunteer activities.
