Review for WJCS-Westchester Jewish Community Services, White Plains, NY, USA
I have been proudly associated with Westchester Jewish Community Services for over 30 years as a Volunteer and a Board Member.
I was initially drawn to WJCS as I learned about the caring, responsible professionalism with which they provide social services to over 20,000 people throughout Westchester County through expert and caring staff. Despite its size, WJCS is flexible and professional in growing and adapting to meet emerging challenges. It is highly respected by legislators, hospitals and corporations who seek to partner with WJCS. WJCS services include mental health counseling and trauma treatment to over 2500 individuals; geriatric services supporting elderly Westchester residents to age safely in their homes; the WJCS Mary J Blige Center in Yonkers with supportive after-school programming and parenting skills for adults; safe spaces and support and even a gay prom for LGBTQ youth provided by WJCS Center Lane; and, a highlight for me, thirteen group homes in leafy neighborhoods around the county where 95 developmentally disabled adults live as independently as possible in family settings with the help of dedicated staff. In this time of Covid, staff and management of WJCS have not missed a beat in providing all services in the safest of ways so that every client receives the support they need. I am indeed proud to be a volunteer and supporter of WJCS.
Review for WJCS-Westchester Jewish Community Services, White Plains, NY, USA
As a board member and a volunteer for WJCS, I am constantly impressed with the caring and innovative thinking of the agency and its well respected staff and committed volunteers. As needs and issues in family mental health, home health care and developmental disabilities arise in the county, WJCS is most often the go-to agency to find a way to meet them. Here are just a few examples of its wide reach: the multiple group homes that WJCS has created and currently maintains for developmentally-challenged adults to live together as independently as possible; the award-winning counseling programs in high schools that support young pregnant and parenting girls allowing them to stay in school till graduation and thereby minimizing the drop-out rate; the safe places that have been created for teens who are searching for their identity or have crises in their home life; the group counseling sessions held by conference call for homebound and often isolated adults affording them some social interaction; and the highly successful partnerships with other organizations like The Joe Torre Fund and the Mary J. Blige foundation to provide services in specific communities.
