We adopted a dog from AFH last fall. The application was long and detailed, but I think that's because AFH wants to be sure people know what they are committing to when they take dogs into their families. Once our application was done, the rest of the process was easy.

I know someone whose application was rejected. The reason did not make sense to him but it was for his protection from later heartbreak if he had to move to a new apartment that would not let renters own German Shepherds, as well as for the dog's protection from being returned and having to adjust to a third family.

Our AFH dog has been delightful.
