When I first heard of HopeKids I thought it was lovely that they offered support to families of kids with life threatening illnesses and vaguely thought that must be tough being one of those families.
And then, suddenly, we became one of those families when my son was diagnosed with a rare leukemia.
The HopeKids community became a lifesaver when life felt so overwhelming. An event with other families like ours felt so life giving when we didn't have to explain what we were going through, they got it.
The events we were invited to gave my husband and I date nights to connect in the midst of chaos, a chance to spend special time with our older son, and time to take our mind off of endless doctors visits and procedures. The staff knows our family and hundreds of others by name and we are so thankful to belong to such a special family.
