Review for MATHCOUNTS Foundation, Alexandria, VA, USA
I started in 1983 while in college working with MathCounts and treasure every moment. The lives that I have seen changed thru the years have been amazing, including my own. I have watched young men and women realize they have a gift, seen others develop their gift, and grow. Some who had no friends, develop friend for life from meeting thru MathCounts. Students who were on a state team together, stay in touch and become college roommates. The excitement on a young man’s face when he realized he could answer the same math questions that the state winner answered to win first place in the state, it was ok that that he did not answer within 10 seconds, but he got the answer within 3 minutes, which is important to realize he could do the math. Watching an 8th grader on the written portion of the National MathCounts Competition testing make a freshman Senator, Tim Scott, feel like a hero, and feel pride in where he had come from his first year as a Senator. MathCounts has changed my life with these young men and women through the years. Helping me who feared math overcome my fear. MathCounts offers something for the weakest student to the most advanced student in Math.
