We have been attending the productions of the Commonweal Theatre Company for 3 years now. The first time we went was while on vacation and at the recommendation of a bank travel guide who took one of her mystery tours to a production and was overwhelmed by the professional theater company in this small Minnesota town. We had this same experience on our first visit and everyone since then, seeing high quality productions covering the full range of genres; mystery, comedy, drama, classics and contemporary. On that first visit the cast came out to talk after to mingle and talk with the audience and we had some great conversations. Every visit back it seems like at least one member of the company recognizes us, sometimes at the ticket booth, sometimes while strolling around town and they are always willing to stop and talk. A couple of them know us by name which is noteworthy because we live over 6 hours away in another state. At the theater everyone is upbeat and really focused on bringing the highest level of service or performance, regardless of their role. I am always astounded by their dedication as the star of a weekend matinee performance may just be in the ticket booth for the evening performance, or the stage manager or director. This company of theater folks do it all and they do it for their audience, the patrons and obviously for the love of their craft. We have become season ticket holders and happy to travel and see their productions, and them personally as often as we can. They keep their ticket prices low, quality high and do it all in a very intimate and enjoyable theater setting. The stage design, scenery and sound are always wonderful and add to the overall production and we think is at or above some of the touring companies we have seen in various other venues. It is a gem located in a wonderfully charming and picturesque small Minnesota town that is welcoming to all.
