Support Connection is a gem of an organization, located in Yorktown Heights. Although they are located in our cozy town, they have a reach of practically anywhere in the country. Support Connection offers a support hotline, educational and wellness programs, social programs and weekly support groups. All of this is for women going through breast, ovarian and gynecological cancer, and friends and family can reach out for support as well. Everything is confidential and free of charge.

From the peer counselors, who are cancer survivors themselves, to the office staff and volunteers – wherever you turn you will find someone who is knowledgeable, compassionate, friendly, dedicated and caring.

My personal experience with Support Connection happened pretty much from the early beginnings of the organization, when my grandmother reached out when dealing with her own breast cancer experience. She received the kindest listening ears of Maria Jennings, and others, and their support led her to become a volunteer peer counselor herself. She eventually worked as part of the staff and as a dedicated volunteer at events.

My grandmother did not only receive support to help her through her dealings with breast cancer, but she made a new family. Support Connection became an extension of our family that understood and cared about her. They are still an important part of our family as they have touched a part of all of our lives at various points throughout the years.

As a volunteer myself, I can personally say that Support Connection goes the extra mile in everything they do. Once they answer that phone call, the caller receives personal attention specific to their needs – no matter how small. The driving force behind everything they do is the women and families that need help in any way. They raise all of their funds themselves and do not get funds from any of the national/larger organizations.

I would not hesitate to recommend Support Connection to anyone who needs a listening ear in an empathetic, caring way. They are truly angels among us. What an amazing example of how a small, local organization can accomplish great things for so many.
