I’ve been a volunteer for Support Connection for more than 10 years now and joined their board of directors two years ago.  We lost my sister Mary to breast cancer 20 years ago and my sister Maureen is undergoing breast cancer treatment for the second time in 10 years. Because of my family history, I’m well aware of how devastating a cancer diagnosis is for the person diagnosed and also the toll it takes on their loved ones. So it’s comforting to know that there are other people out there who are going through or have gone through the same frightening time. All of Support Connection's counselors are cancer survivors themselves which puts them in the best position to guide women through a very difficult time.

Once I met the caring counselors, staff, and other volunteers, I knew this was the right organization for me to give my time to. I see how they make such a positive impact on the many people who turn to them for support. Anyone affected by breast, ovarian or any other gynecological cancer, be it a patient, a spouse, a child or a friend, can reachout to Support Connection for help. This organization is very worthy of receiving the Great NonProfit Award.

I was first introduced to the executive director of Support Connection, Kathy Quinn, about 8 years ago when I was looking to do some volunteer work. It was obvious how passionate she was about their mission to help change fear to hope by providing free emotional, social, and educational support to people impacted by breast, ovarian, or gynecological cancer. When I heard that their counselors were all survivors of one of those cancers themselves I became very interested. Once I met the kind and caring counselors and staff I knew this was the right organization to give my time to. I've seen what a positive impact they've had on so many cancer survivors and their families. And they provide these services to people all over the country. A cancer diagnosis is frightening, as I've witnessed with my own family, so it's comforting to have someone to guide you through it and to meet others who are going through the same traumatic time. Support Connection is, and has been, a lifeline to so many people who have turned to them for help.
