Soccer has always been a place of community and a home away from home for me. When I was a kid, I didn’t speak English as I do now and found a home in soccer. I was like the kids I see now at SWB, an immigrant trying to find a place in a new environment. Now I volunteer within the Oakland, California program.

SWB is an outstanding organization with a commitment to youth development, combined with compassion, humor, enthusiasm, and a sense of community and love for these young people. I’m grateful to witness the kids enjoy themselves playing, as they form friendships, and experience the motivation and encouragement from the SWB staff that stretches far beyond soccer.
