CERT is a vital organization to the County of Santa Cruz. Volunteers prepare to help in the event of a disaster through ongoing training in rescue, medical and general preparedness. Their volunteers have assisted the county disaster operations many times.

CERT is a 100% volunteer organization that trains volunteers to be prepared to help their families, neighbors, and the community in the event of a natural disaster or emergency situation. Funds donated to CERT support supplies needed in the event of a disaster and during training. I belonged to another CERT in the past and Santa Cruz County is much more organized, provides regular training (even though COVID), and proved itself useful during our recent fire evacuation.

I have been aware of the positive effect of YFIOB for several years and last year started volunteering with them as a Mentor. The program exceeded my expectations as it was so well organized. Both Mentors and Mentees were provided binders that contained timelines, expectations, and a carefully planned agenda for each of our monthly meetings. Communication was excellent and unplanned changes as a result of COVID went smoothly. I mentored students in other situations and this was the most successful.
