I was initially drawn to volunteer with NICA as a coach because I was impressed by their commitment to cultivating developmental experiences for kids by maintaining a rigorous volunteer training process. As a volunteer, I was given access to high-quality, online trainings that helped me better understand how I can support kids in my volunteer coach role. I was even able to attend an in-person coaches gathering that focused on building community with women coaches and sharing best practices (pictures attached). The coaches gathering event was an absolutely incredible experience! I walked away with a network of peer coaches that I could lean on for support as well as new games and tips to bring to the kids I worked with.

More recently, I was able to support a Girls Riding Together (GRiT) event with one of my local teams, and it was exciting to see how this event was creating opportunities for girls who are new to biking to feel welcomed and to advance their confidence through the fun biking games that we played together.

I look forward to continuing to support NICA by advancing my coach training even further into Level 2 and eventually Level 3. I'm really appreciative that NICA provides this robust training access so that I can continue learning how to have the most impact with our student athletes.
