If you are a person who loves being around animals in a beautiful, bucolic setting then I highly recommend this volunteer experience. Or...if you are a person who maybe isn't into being around animals, but wants to lend your skills in supporting an organization that helps veterans, at-risk teens and others struggling with anxiety and PTSD, then this is the gig for you. I have been volunteering at Spring Reins of Life since January of 2022. Aside from donating regularly to help support the care and feeding of the herd, I go in once a week and help out with chores--feeding, watering, grooming, mucking and turning out the horses. I don't sit in on the therapy sessions, because of HIPA laws, but I do get to spend lots of time talking with the director about all the wonderful, life-changing moments that these very special animals and human guides have brought to pass during therapy sessions. Literally hundreds of humans have been brought back from some very dark places, working through deep trauma, depression and emotional difficulties with the aid of four very intuitive horses, three donkeys, some goats, a cat a chicken and some very gifted humans. As much as I enjoy hearing about the many success stories that have happened here, I especially enjoy interacting with the animals, several of which have, themselves, been rescued from the brink of disaster. Donating to and volunteering at Spring Reins of Life has been an incredibly fulfilling and enriching experience, and something I look forward to doing for a very long time.
