Review for Unbound, Kansas City, KS, USA
Fifteen years ago, at the request of our aging parents, I, my sister and my husband traveled to El Salvador to meet the girl my parents had sponsored for many years. We participated in the 8-day program, visiting many projects before meeting our parents' sponsored girl. We were appalled at the incredible poverty we witnessed, and extremely impressed with the solid assistance the Salvadorans received through what was then CFCA. The gratitude of the sponsored girl and her family moved all three of us. What a wonderful afternoon we spent talking with them and getting to know them.
What we witnessed inspired us to sponsor for ourselves. Currently my husband and I sponsor two persons, my sister, two, and we convinced our other sister to begin sponsoring. one child. We were able to meet the children we chose to sponsor before leaving El Salvador. While one of them is no longer able to participate in Unbound, we still sponsor Meylin who was two years old when we met. We write letters to each other frequently. We have watched her grow up. She is thriving in school because of the program. I think of her as a granddaughter now, and would like to visit her again. She does not remember our meeting at all. In addition we sponsor a disabled 80 year old man in Guatemala. His granddaughters write letters to us to report on his health and activities.
We will continue to sponsor through Unbound because it is efficiently run and a large percentage of the donated money goes into the people it is intended for.
