Review for Unbound, Kansas City, KS, USA
I was ordained a priest in 1994 and that changed my life. But a few months later something else changed my life - possibly in a more profound way. My friend Deacon Rich, who I have known since I was a child, and who I love and trust deeply, told me I should become a sponsor through this organization. He thought it would be good for me and my Christian journey. He was so right!
It is interesting that I got this invitation to tell my story while I am working on my homily for this Sunday where Jesus reminds us to not store up earthly treasures but to be rich in what matters to God. I have spent the last two or three hours reflecting on how my experiences with Unbound have formed my heart. I have travelled with Unbound many times, bringing teens and adults on awareness trips and have met many of the staff and people who are served by Unbound.
I guess the best way to describe what Unbound has done for my life is to quote a woman who travelled with me to El Salvador. On the last day of the trip she told me, "I consider myself a very good person with a very good heart. There is a part of my heart that I didn't even know existed that is beating rapidly with life because of this experience. unbound has done the same for my heart.
I am so pleased to say that I am part of the Unbound worldwide community of compassion.
