My wife and I have been members of Unbound for quite a few years, starting back when they were called CFCU. Our first supported child was a young woman from Kenya. She was a delightful person and we communicated regularly with her. I remember that we were told that our $40/mo. contribution effectively doubled the family income. After about 3 years, however we received notice that our sponsored young woman had been expelled from the program for not being accountable. When I questioned this decision via email with Unbound I was given sufficient information to conclude that accountability is very important to the organization. As a former businessman, accountability is very important to me for my charitable giving. I want to know that my giving, small as it is is being put to its intended use.

Over the years we have kept two sponsored youth supported continuously through Unbound. We receive regular communication with our sponsored young people. Over the years, we have been part of all but one of these young people go on and be successful and leave the program to support themselves. There is no better feeling than receiving a letter from one of your sponsored kids advising that they have been able to achieve success through sponsorship with Unbound.org and no longer need support.

I give Unbound my highest recommendation as a way to directly help young people in poverty stricken areas find success.
