I adopted my horse from Whiskey Ridge in 2017. They were wonderful to work with. I also had saved a pony and a senior donkey the same year from a kill pen. Fast forward 7 years. Family health issues and the death of my husband threw us into a tailspin and I realized I was in over my head. I called Jami explained the situation and asked if she could take my sweeties. I knew Gambler was not going to be an issue. They will always give their adoptees a safe place to land. But I wasn’t sure about my other two. It was asking a lot. I wasn’t going to surrender any if they couldn’t all go. She didn’t hesitate. I am so thankful they all are safe and never have to worry about going to auction again. I know they will be cared for and a good home found for them. It was such a hard thing to say goodbye, but they are safe and happy.

Having a horse has been on my bucket list since I was 3 years old. I’m 63 now. 5 years ago I ran across Whiskey Ridge Rescue and started following them. Then I reached out to them and went and visited. Jamie was so kind and introduced me to Gambler- a 15 year old Morgan/ Quarter horse. I fell in love but had very little experience. She started training him and called me to let me know she didn’t think he was right for me ( a novice). I cried and said I understood and I’d just wait and see if another came in that might work. But I was so sad. A couple months later she got back with me. She said it finally just clicked with him and I could come see what I thought. I brought him home a few weeks later. He’s a big ol puppy dog. I love him to bits. Since adopting him I’ve discovered I don’t really care about riding. But I love seeing him. Hugging on him and he follows me around and is a sweetheart. This rescue doesn’t just rescue animals- they LOVE on them and teach them to trust again. I’m so glad I found them. Pic is Gambler with my granddaughter.
