Bess the Book Bus is a heroic and beautiful nonprofit organization. Through the leadership of their passionate director, Jennifer Frances, Best the Book Bus champions kids and literacy through distribution of high interest books directly into the hands of kids in communities where books and funds to obtain them are scarce. When the Book Bus visits a community school, it is like a holiday. Kids get to take a magic trip into the Book Bus, review and select a book and keep it. For some kids, it is the first book they ever own. This transformative experience celebrates literacy and teaches kids they are valued and that the joyous world of reading is open to them. Bess the Book Bus makes these moments happen nationwide. I only wish every school could have a Book Bus visit several times a year!
