Review for Local Hope Guatemala / Xela AID Partnerships for Self Reliance, Sunset Beach, CA, USA
I, my church Youth Group, and other members participated in an intergenerational trip to San Martin Sacatepéquez with short stops in Antigua and Lake Atitlan before and after. I can not speak highly enough of the coordination, facilities, and experience provided by Xela Aid and partners during the trip. Project work exposed my group to the challenges faced by local people, some real-life actions to address some of those challenges, and most importantly, long-term strategies for improving community health and livelihoods. All members of our group were clearly moved by personal interactions with community members, their children, and Guatemalan staff. I was particularly affected by the stories of the staff, who not only worked long hours to make our stay comfortable and our project work successful, but were examples of how Xela-Aid's education programs and leadership training succeeded in improving their lives, their family's lives, and those in their community.
