REEF has helped me learn about the marine environment in many places, not only in the Pacific Northwest where I live, but in any place I visit. I started doing fish surveys on my dives and snorkels 25 years ago, and can't imagine being in the water now without doing a survey! It's so enjoyable knowing what you're looking at underwater.

You might start out joining REEF so you can give something back to better the oceans and marine life, but be pleasantly surprised when you discover that you're the one who benefits! I've been involved with the Volunteer Fish Survey Project for over 2 decades now. Learning how to identify fish in both cold water and warm water around the world, and tracking their populations has been one of the most satisfying ways to spend my time. The volunteers are some of the most interesting people around, and the amount of dedication they have is inspiring. Thank you REEF for making this happen.

REEF has taken me on an adventure! What started out over 20 years ago as a desire to learn what fish and invertebrates were in my photos as a new diver, has turned into so much more. REEF's educational programs to help divers and snorkelers learn how to identify fish are super helpful, and the regional Facebook Groups are also a great source of info.
