Review for New Horizons Service Dogs, Inc., Orange City, FL, USA
I just finished my 2 week training course and am headed home with my sweet, beautiful new service dog!! NHSD is the amazing organization that trained this dog (and me for the past 2 weeks lol). I am extremely grateful for the time and care that they put into training me and the others in my class, and for the beautiful dogs they gave us :)
I applied to NHSD instead of other organizations because I learned about it from a friend with a New Horizons dog. I really liked the idea that it was a Florida-based organization, meaning it seemed to be smaller and have more of a family-feel. I couldn’t have been more correct with that assumption! During training, Janet, Patti, Laura, Linda, Janette, and Kaitlyn made us all feel very secure in knowing how to care for the dog, be safe in public, feel confident, and grow as a successful team. They gave us their personal numbers and told us we could contact them if we ever needed help with anything.
Throughout training we learned the dog’s language, how to best work with our specific dog, practiced skills that help our specific disabilities, and went on several outings to feel safe in public. At the end of it, I have a beautiful golden girl who is eager to help and loves to lay her head on my leg and gaze up at me with her caramel eyes. I also have new friends, my classmates who are starting this journey with me too! Thank you so much NHSD. I only had to pay for supplies relating to the training class, not the $30,000 it took to train my girl or the time the volunteer trainers spent with us these past 2 weeks. All they ask is for us to help them fundraise to stay capable of helping more people like me in the future. I think that’s a very small ask for the wonderful gift they’ve given me.
