There is so much I could say about Active Minds. I operated as a chapter president for three years, and in that time, many great things happened and many frustrations happened, as with any endeavor. The Active Minds National organization was so kind, as they sent chapters goodie boxes every year and tried to support us as much as they could. However, there were other areas that I felt they could’ve been a greater support - for example, charging $2000+ for an organization-sponsored suicide awareness event. Very few organizations can afford this - in three years of fundraising, my organization was still unable to get enough money, even with donations and applying for grants. Another positive, though, is that the organization leaders were extremely accessible, which helped a ton when I had questions. I think that overall this is a great group to be a part of. I learned a lot about leadership. I did events such as suicide awareness walks, self care sessions, and informational sessions about mental health.
