I started volunteering with YAH back before they had the amazing new shelter in Woodstock. The staff and volunteers are made up of true animal lovers. I have never been in a shelter that does not smell like it has animals in it, until now. The rooms all have couches or benches or chairs, dog beds and blankets for the dogs to rest on. It is like their own living room. Cleaning is done daily multiple times a day most days. Dogs and cats acclimating to their new residence can be kept separate, in luxury rooms to provide security and to allow them to be evaluated for adoption or rest from surgeries often required on older pets. The environment is one of safety and comfort for the pets, and volunteers. It is like Dell Web, but for pets! I love volunteering and helping to keep the pets feeling loved and providing enrichment opportunities. I cannot say enough good things about the shelter, the pets they have their and the staff and volunteers. Truly, if a senior pet loses their home, this is the only place I would want them to go.
